East Japan Railway Company (hereinafter referred to as the "Company” and/or “we”) acquires user information (hereinafter referred to as the "User Information”) and processes them as follows in implementing the Common Account Service provided to users which is based on the “JaM id” issued by the Company and the Client Services provided through the Common Account Service (hereinafter collectively referred to as the "Service"). We also stipulate the Cookie Policy for the use of Cookie.


The terms used in this Privacy Policy shall follow the definitions in the Terms of Use of the JaM id.

Article 1 (User Information Collected in the Service))

We will collect User Information through the Service in the following ways.

  1. Information provided by the User
    This includes e-mail address, password and telephone number which the User registers when opening an account, credit card information and transportation system IC card ID information registered by the User for the use of the Service, and any other information provided by the User in connection with the provision of the Service or transactions with the Company.
  2. Information technically collected when using the Service
    1. Device information
      The Service collects information about the Mobile Devices used by the User. This includes, for example, hardware model and OS version, mobile device settings, unique device ID, crash information, and mobile network information.
    2. Log information
      When using the Service, information exchanged between the user and the Service is automatically recorded in the server. For example, it includes the time when the application is launched.
    3. Location information
      When location information is enabled by the User, information about the User’s current location may be collected and processed. The current location of the User is determined using a variety of other technologies, including GPS signals transmitted from the Mobile Device and information nearby Wi-Fi access points and base stations provided by sensor data from the User’s Mobile Device.
  3. Information on the usage status of transportation system IC cards
    The usage status of transportation tickets and electronic money may be obtained through transportation system IC cards registered for the Service.
  4. Information on the Client Services
    Information on the User’s use of the Client Service (type of service used, date and time of use, amount of money spent, location information, travel route information, etc.) may be acquired by the Designated Service Provider for the Client Service. The specific information to be acquired shall be stipulated in the terms of use of each Client Service.

Article 2 (Purpose of Use of User Information)

The Company may use the User Information acquired through the Service for the following purposes.

  1. For the conclusion and performance of contract including provision of the Service, the management of a contract, and the after-sales service for the Service provided.
  2. To execute, manage, and protect the credit of the Subject Transaction and its settlement related to the use of the Service.
  3. To make necessary communications regarding the Service, the Subject Transaction, and credit card settlements.
  4. To enter into, execute and manage contracts with the Designated Service Providers, credit card companies, and other business partners of the Company related to the Service.
  5. To receive and respond to inquiries and opinions from the User.
  6. To provide information regarding the Service and other information related to our business activities.
  7. To maintain and manage the facilities, equipment and devices necessary for the provision of the Service and the status of their use.
  8. To ensure User’s security and to review and develop software, systems, facilities, and equipment for ensuring security.
  9. To improve and upgrade the Service and develop new functions.
  10. To consider and develop new products and services and the software, systems, facilities and equipment that provide them.
  11. For market research and other studies.
  12. To distribute coupons and notices from the Company, Designated Service Provider, and the Company's business partners related to the Service, and to provide advertising and marketing.

Article 3 (Provision of User Information to Third Parties)

  1. Within the scope of the purpose stipulated in Article 2, we may provide the User Information to JR East Group companies (subsidiary companies of the Company) or Designated Service Providers, and the User accepts and agrees to this provision.
  2. The Company may provide and disclose statistical information which extract items related to common elements and aggregate them into statistics for the same categories from User Information regarding usage trends of multiple Users on the Service (e.g., frequency of use, area, etc.) to other companies, organizations, or individuals.
  3. We will provide the User’s registered credit card information to such credit card company and the credit settlement agent used by us (DG Financial Technology, Inc. (formerly VeriTrans Inc.), Head Office: 10F Digital Gate Building, 3-5-7 Ebisu-Minami, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) for the purposes described in Article 2 b through e.
  4. Except the cases stipulated in the preceding three paragraphs and this Privacy Policy, and other than the following cases, we ensure not to provide User Information to any other companies, organizations, or individuals.
    1. When we have obtained the User's consent
      We will provide User Information to other companies, organizations, or individuals in the case of obtaining User's consent.
    2. Outsourcing
      We may provide User Information to other companies, organizations, or individuals for the purpose of outsourcing our administrative processes to them. In such a case, we will ensure that the contractor complies with this Privacy Policy and takes appropriate measures to maintain confidentiality and security
    3. When required by law
      If we determine that access, use or preservation of User Information by other companies, organizations or individuals, or disclosure of User Information to them is reasonably necessary for any of the following reasons, we will provide such information to other company, organization, or individual.
      1. In accordance with applicable laws or regulations, etc.
      2. When it is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User.
      3. When disclosure is particularly necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User.
      4. When it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local government, or an individual or entity entrusted by either a national agency or local government to execute affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the consent of the User is likely to impede the execution of such affairs.
  5. The User agrees that the Designated Service Provider may provide the Company with information on the usage of the Client Service obtained by the Designated Service Provider in the Client Service. The specific information to be provided shall be stipulated in the terms of use, etc. of each Client Service.

Article 4 (Use of Information Collection Modules))

The Service incorporates the information collection modules of the third parties listed below, and such third parties may acquire User Information for the purposes of use of User Information as set forth in Article 2. The User consents to the use and retention of User Information by such third party for the purpose of providing and improving such third party's services related to the Service in accordance with the privacy policy of such third party as well as with the provisions of this Terms of Use.

    Purpose of use: To research trends related to usage. To investigate application crash information.
  3. Appsflyer
    Provider: AppsFlyer, Inc.

    Purpose of use: To measure the effectiveness of advertisement placement. To deliver advertisements suitable for users.
  4. Salesforce Marketing Cloud
    Provider: salesforce.com, inc.

    Purpose of use: To deliver content suitable for users.

Article 5 (Joint Use of User Information)

We will jointly use the following User Information in accordance with the following.

  1. Items of User Information to be jointly used
    Registration information, information related to search, device information, log information, location information, JaM id account information, account unique number, and device identification information
  2. Scope of joint users
    JR East Group companies listed in the Company's annual securities reports, etc.
  3. Purpose of use
    For the purposes of Article 2 c, g and h
  4. Name of the person responsible for the management of personal data
    The following party shall be responsible for the management of User Information in the joint use under Article 5.

Article 6 (Other Matters)

Matters not stipulated in this Privacy Policy shall be governed by the "Basic Policy on the Handling of Personal Information" ((Japanese version:https://www.jreast.co.jp/site/privacy.html、English version:https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/policy/index.html), which is posted on the Company's website. Please also refer to our "Basic Policy on the Handling of Personal Information" for "Measures Taken for the Safe Management of Personal Information", "Procedures for Disclosure, etc. of Personal Information", and "Contact for Inquiries, etc. Concerning Personal Information”.

Article 7 (Precedence of Japanese Version of Privacy Policy)

This Privacy Policy was originally prepared in the Japanese language. In the event of any discrepancy between the English-language version and the Japanese-language version regarding the interpretation of the Privacy Policy, the Japanese-language version shall prevail.
